Display - Bridgestone Introduces Film-Type Filter for PDP
October 12, 2004
Bridgestone of Japan has developed a film-type filter for PDP (Plasma Display Panel) that obviates the need for a glass substrate. The company states that the adoption of such technology would cut material costs by up to 20% and 30%.

Indicating that the filter is ready for mass production, Bridgestone noted that the film weighs about one-tenth that of standard filters. 42" sizes weigh in at roughly 400 grams, and are one millimeter thick, or about one third the thickness of conventional filters.

Bridgestone has also said that the film possesses improved color reproduction, stronger shielding of electromagnetic waves, and does not reflect external light. In terms of shock-resistance, the company claims the new offering to be as strong as conventional filters.
